I can’t even begin to tell you how good these char-grilled oysters were. Where do I start!?
First let’s go with the smell. As soon as the waiter came around, all you smell is the cheese goodness- of the parmesan cheese that is sprinkled on top. The shells are wicked hot to the touch, so careful! I know your mouth is watering, but have a little self control. It’s hard. They smell so good.
Well once it has cooled down enough that you can manage to grab an oyster and scoop one out, GO! GO GO GO! The result is a perfectly cooked oyster in your mouth that is covered in cheese and oil. OMG. I don’t know what else they sprinkle on these. Maybe some garlic? Olive oil? Whatever it is, it is amazing. You definitely want to take advantage of the bread and dip it in all that oil. YUM.
The raw oysters were also real good. Some of the best raw oysters I’ve ever had in my life.
Yes, I went all out. For my entrée, I ordered the soft shell crab. This thing was pretty big…and scary. I know what crabs look like, but having it just chilling right in front of you looking like a huge spider was starting to freak me out. I overcame my fear and just went for it. The crab was pretty tasty, but I prefer it tempura style. After a while the fried stuff gets to you.
This was by far my favorite food during my Mardi Gras trip to New Orleans, LA. Char-grilled oysters are a MUST HAVE. There is almost always a long line outside of this place, but it moves surprisingly quickly- within 15 minutes we were seated and the wait is SO worth it!
